Chapter 12

1. Learning objective 1:
Identify knowledge inputs that are useful in designing lessons that integrate technology.
1)Knowledge of content: A teacher needs to be familiar with the content that they are expected to teach. Teachers need to extend their knowledge of topics so that they can get in depth with their students and give them knowledge beyond basic facts.
2)Knowledge of technology:Teachers need to know the appropriate technology that they can use to learn and teach the content. They need to understand what technologies work best. They need to be creative in integrating technology into curriculums when appropriate.
3)Knowledge of Teaching and Learning: This can be learned through experience and teacher preparation programs. The more experiences and viewpoints a teacher has the better they will be able to transfer their content knowledge to students. Good teachers are organized, prepared, use a variety of teaching strategies, and teach with enthusiasm.

2. Question
We talked about this in class a little bit. It seems to me that the constant need to integrate technology could detract from some basic lessons. Should we look at every lesson plan with the idea of incorporating technology? Some of the most interactive and memorable experiences for me in school is when we were outside doing hands on learning, far away from computer labs and technology.

3. In my teaching...
I feel that a new teacher could easily be overwhelmed at the prospect of designing new lesson plans. It is useful to see the goals of an effective lesson plan laid out. It helps a teacher, and us as students mentally prepare. As I read this chapter I was thinking of ways to integrate these topics and strategies into my lesson plan that I am creating. My first step will be making sure that I know the content knowledge front to back so that I can present it in different and exciting ways to my hypothetical students.

Chapter 13

1. Learning Objective 3- Identify achievement targets related to unit goals and objectives for instruction in technology-enhanced instruction.

It is important to have specific achievement targets in mind when you are gathering information for an assessment. The more clear you target is the easier it will be to assess whether your student has mastered a task. Following are five specific achievement targets:
1) Knowledge- what students know and understand about content matter
2) Reasoning- problem solving skills using content knowledge
3) Performance skills- proficiency in performing processes based on what they know and understand
4)Dispositions- attitudes, confidence, and interest toward content knowledge and understandings

2. Question-

It seems as though achievement targets are very broad and almost subjective to the person preparing for assessment. When you have students moving from classroom to classroom is it possible for teachers to have a different set of targets or are they pretty standard? How important is it for teachers to have a common set of targets to ensure accuracy? Is it important for broad assessments of a student's overall work or more of a project to project situation?

3. Teaching Reflection-

This chapter was really useful in teaching assessment methods both for technology and regular classrooms. I found the information on alternative assessments particularly useful. We know that not all students learn in the same way so we may have to adjust our assessments to match learning styles. I like the idea of using various assessments to track a student's progress. It gives you a clearer picture and allows the areas that need work to stick out a little more. I also like the idea of having a scoring guide when assessing. When it is broken down you can easily see which students met their target goals for a project.

EDCI 320- Chapter 4.

1. Chapter Learning Objective 1: Identify what is meant by technological literacy in the 21st century.
To make sure that students in the 21st century are technologically literate schools are expected to teach them emerging technologies. Schools must teach students how to write and communicate using appropriate technologies. Students need to know what technology is, how it works, what purpose it serves, and how it can be used efficiently and effectively to solve problems and make decisions. A technology literate student will be able to think strategically and problem solve when it comes to using technology. Knowledge of technology will help foster these skills. The teaching of technology to students should enhance their learning and make them better prepared to someday become contributing citizens.

2. Question: As I was reading the book mentioned that iMovie, iPhoto, etc. were good tools to use in the classroom for learning aids. My question is whether or not students have to have parental permission to have videos/pictures taken of them. In my high school we were required to sign our own permission slips to have our videos shown to other students. Is this a requirement?

3. This chapter was important for me as a future Special Education Teacher and, hopefully someday, an Educational Psychologist. Modern technology is crucial to creating a learning environment that can aid a disabled student. From something as simple as a sick student being able to email their assignments in, to a hearing impaired student being able to follow a lecture with a computer program that prints out what the teacher is saying. It will be important for me to stay abreast in current technologies so that I can provide students with the latest learning aids that will enhance their overall learning experiences.
