Chapter 11

1. Learning Objective 4: Clarify key stages in an effective demonstration that guides students learning with and about technology in various subject areas.
1. Preparation: The teacher identifies and prepares the demonstration to fit
the content, to engage the students in the content, and to be visible by all
students.
2. Motivate: The teacher challenges the students to become mentally engaged in
the demonstration.
3. Demonstrate: The teacher presents the demonstration while engaging students
in the ideas as they unfold. Students observe the demonstration but must respond
to questions that challenge their thinking about the ideas.
4. Closure, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate: The teacher challenges the students
to explain the demonstration, extend the ideas to the content, and evaluate
the effectiveness of the demonstration in explaining.

2. Question:
My question is about the incredible amount of preparation that a teacher has to put into every project. According to the book there is a preparation stage, an introduction and motivation stage, the actual activity, and then follow up questions and activities. How does a teacher have time to follow this format for every project or lecture? Also, when do teachers know when content has gone from challenging and engaging to too difficult?

3. This chapter was helpful in getting me to think about how to get students engaged and excited about school work. As a special education teacher it is important that I am organized and prepared. It is also important that I can teach material in a way that keep students engaged and challenged. It is important for me to be able to distinguish the line between challenging and too difficult.
