1. Learning Objective 5:
Identify social, ethical, and human issues that are important with respect to multimedia.
It is important for students to understand legal concerns about copying material. Teachers need to instill an ethical perspective towards the use of media elements created by others. It is important that a students uses information that is available to them and learn from it but it is also important that they give the original authors fair credit. Socially, teachers must be conscious of their students diverse backgrounds. A teacher needs to try to include all cultures when appropriate.
2. Question:
What do you tell a student who comes from a home where downloading is the norm? How do you tell them that what their parents/siblings/etc. are doing is not entirely ethical and is often illegal?
3. Implications to teaching
This chapter was very useful in outlining how a teacher can put together a media presentation. Not only is this important for teacher in their classroom, but it is also useful when putting together presentations/teaching for your peers and work associates.
